History
Les'was raised in San Francisco and East bay suburb of Livermore, His music and cultural interest began on the avenues and in Golden Gate Park. His older brother Jim Browning had begun to play guitar as a sibling and Les followed and started playing at about 9 years old. Influenced by Hendrix,
Santana, John Fogerty and Cream in the early years. He was naturally driven to play guitar that was overdriven, Rock, Blues and Bay Area influenced. Taking in as many Bill Graham Shows as possible.
The Browning family moved into the East bay Suburb of Livermore.
Les began to jam with next door neighbor Bryan Alsup and Progressive Keyboardist Roy Wigley at Junction Avenue Middle School. In freshman year at Granada Highschool they met Rick Jensen a flambouyant drummer with unequaled chops. Paul Laguer would soon join on Latin percussion and together they formed the Original band Aftershock. Ryan Bernat of Emerald later joined on bass and Vocals.
Aftershock was a mixture of songwriters, with Bryan Alsup being the chief songwriter and Rick and Les soon contributing their brand of metal and syncopation to Alsups, Latin Melodies and soulful Lead Guitar. Les and Rick were the Lead vocalists with Bryan Paul and Ryan adding solid solo support and backing vocals. They were unsurpassed as a Band for 20 years plus.
They became part of a sprawling Rock music community including peers and mentors such as Jim Browning, Vic Trigger, Kip Haaheim, Forest Frick, Paul, Steve and Pat Alvarez, Dan, Jeff, and Stuart Vash, Mike Holdsworth, Scotty London, Marty Schuchardt, Dave Moreno,Frank Silviera, Dave Koolhoven, John Gay, Tommy Merry, Dave Carpender, Sam & Linda Fortes, Richard Stewart, Rick Kellogg, George Webb,Jim & Roger Liptak, Bob Norville, Mike Inzerilla, Jim McSharry, James DaPaiva, and a very young Andy Sturmer.
